Power is launching a range of smart products designed to make everyday life easier for pet owners, under the chain's own Point PET brand.

If we are to believe the press release Power issued on 26 October, there is considerable potential in the product category. It refers to a survey conducted by TNS Kantar in 2024, which estimated that more than 31 per cent of Norwegian households have a dog or cat. In other words, 805,000 Norwegian households collectively have 1.2 million pets. It also refers to a British survey of 2,000 dog owners, conducted by Daikin UK in 2021, according to which dog owners spend an average of more than five days a year cleaning up after their dog.

Clumps of fur and pungent odours

– When customers are buying a new vacuum cleaner, the first question is often whether it picks up dog hair. Dogs and cats are part of almost every conversation we have about the home, says Danial Bhatti, sales manager at Power, in the press release.

It says that clumps of fur on the sofa and pungent odours in the hallway are familiar sources of frustration for cat and dog owners. Products in the Point PET range include a litter tray that automatically removes waste, pet dryers, pet clippers and feeding stations that fill the bowl at set times.

According to the British survey from 2021, 44 per cent say they are reluctant to invite people over because of mess and odours from their dog.

Time-saver

– A pet vacuum cleaner can be a time-saver for many people. Small hairs from dogs and cats easily cling to the fabric on furniture, and it is often easier to take a cordless vacuum straight to the sofa than to drag the vacuum cleaner through the entire house, says sales manager Bhatti in the press release.

Power points out that many cats drink less than they should, and that owners with long working days do not always know whether the dog has had breakfast.

– Cats are picky. Many would rather drink from the tap than from the bowl, and the fountain imitates this. Automatic feeding stations also ensure that the pet gets food and drink, even when the owner is not at home, says Bhatti.
