FRIO EXPANDS FROM WINE TO FOOD

Frio Nordics showcases at the IFA fair in Berlin a compact combi fridge and special cabinets for vegetables and cheese, but wine cabinets remain the core.

Modified

– This is a traditional American side-by-side cabinet with double width doors at the top and fridge drawers at the bottom. The difference is that it is less than 60 cm deep and has all ventilation at the front via the plinth. This means that the cabinet can be integrated between or next to tall cabinets without the doors protruding, says Armand Munther Gustavson.

He is the managing director of the company formerly known as Temptech, which has always focused on wine cabinets. Gustavson assures the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen that this will still be the core of the business.

Using expertise

– We see that the expertise we have in cooling and humidity from wine cabinets can be transferred to other areas. Therefore, we are expanding our range with products that bring something new to the market, says Gustavson.

In France, the Frio group has been selling cooling products for many years, and Gustavson explains why they are only now being introduced in Norway.

It provides optimal conditions for the vegetables, keeping them crisp and nutritious

– The situation here is different from in France, as the largest players cover much of their needs through in-house production. For us, it was important to find products that either have an attractive price point or bring something new and exciting, like this cabinet with French doors does, says Gustavson.

Vegetables and cheese

Among the new products is a dedicated vegetable cabinet with two drawers and a 130-litre capacity, where the humidity can be adjusted up to 95 percent.

– It provides optimal conditions for the vegetables, keeping them crisp and nutritious for as long as possible. The cabinet has standard dimensions for integration under the counter, says Gustavson.

Frio is also launching a compact cabinet designed for cheese storage.

– As part of the Frio Group, it felt natural to offer a product that preserves the French cheese culture. The cabinet has a standard compact oven size for full integration in tall cabinets, says Gustavson.
