Both chips have an 18-core CPU with six high-performance cores and twelve efficiency cores, designed for high single-threaded performance and power-efficient multi-threaded processing. The GPUs scale up to 20 cores, M5 Pro, and up to 40 cores, M5 Max, both with a Neural Accelerator in each core. M5 Pro supports up to 64 GB of unified memory with 307 GBps bandwidth, while M5 Max supports up to 128 GB of unified memory with 614 GBps bandwidth. The chips feature hardware-accelerated H.264, HEVC, AV1 decoding, and ProRes encoding, as well as a faster 16-core Neural Engine. M5 Pro and M5 Max are designed for advanced workflows such as 3D rendering, data modeling, and AI tasks.
