Epson has for the first time surpassed HP and taken the top spot in the global inkjet printer market, the company reports in a press release.

– First place is a major milestone and a great way to start the year, says Tor Jørgen Westerby, sales manager Home & Office Print at Epson Norway.

In the press release, Epson points out that according to the analysis and market research company IDC, they had a global market share of 34.1 percent (measured in volume) in the third quarter of 2025, and that with this, they took first place for the first time.

– Epson has ended the sale of laser printers due to the technology's environmental limitations. Instead, the Japanese company has in recent years invested significantly in research and development of heat-free ink technology, which among other things has environmental and speed advantages versus laser printers, the press release states.

It is noted that laser printers need heat to fix the toner, while heat-free printing technology significantly reduces the need for energy because it does not use electricity for heating.

– The technology also reduces the need for consumables, and all this combined gives low total ownership costs, writes Epson.

– Epson has also invested significantly in showing the market that ink technology makes a difference in power consumption, waste, and CO2 emissions. We are proud that more and more private and public enterprises have understood the message and are experiencing the benefits in practice, says Westerby in the press release.

The Epson group is owned by Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, and has an annual turnover of around 5.4 billion euros.
