According to a press release, earbuds, mobile phones and cordless vacuum cleaners top the list. In seventh place, however, a product appears that surprises the chain’s communications manager.

– I am surprised that the microwave oven has become so popular recently. Many students are buying this for their new student accommodation. That is probably why there is higher demand for microwave ovens now, and for many it is evidently urgent to have it delivered to their home, says Silje Ensrud in a press release dated 3 August.

Here, reference is made to the microwave oven being the product that taught Norwegians that dinner could be ready in 60 seconds.

– Now the same impatience applies to the purchase itself, writes Power, pointing out that the microwave oven was launched in the US as early as the 1940s.

– The microwave oven has stood on the kitchen counter for 40 years without receiving much attention. Now it is suddenly an urgent purchase. There are not many products from the 1980s that you need immediately, but this is evidently one of them, says communications manager Ensrud in the press release.
