– When you build new, you get it exactly as you want, and tailored to the use we have, says general manager Maria Kjærlid-Auensen at Pelle's workshop.

– It has been a dream to have our own building, and after a little over 100 years, we are there, says Kjærlid-Auensen to the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen.

We meet her in November at the company's premises outside Tønsberg.

– We have taken a big step into the future with these premises, says Kjærlid-Auensen.

Pelles workshop provides service on everything from small electrical products and white goods to commercial kitchen equipment and heat pumps.

– With 700 square metres, we meet our needs for many years to come, says Kjærlid-Auensen.

The new building houses a modern spare parts warehouse, several offices and a customer reception with its own showroom. In addition, a social area with workstations has been established to give technicians better workflow in their daily work.

Into the ES chain

The construction cost was just over 10 million kroner, which according to Kjærlid-Auensen is a good investment.

– We have lower costs now than when we rented premises, she says.

The proximity to the E18 has also had positive effects for Pelles workshop.

– Logistics have become simpler, and thus the working day is more efficient, says Kjærlid-Auensen.

After being independent for a few years, Pelles workshop will be back in the ES chain from 2026. The workshop chain currently consists of 28 white goods workshops, and Pelles workshop will become member number 29.

- Pelle's workshop has stood firm alone, but there are clear advantages to being in a community, says Kjærlid-Auensen.

In addition to becoming a member of the ES chain, Kjærlid-Auensen also takes on a role as the leader of the chain.

More legs to stand on

- My main goal is to unite the chain and ensure that we march in step, she says.

She was presented and formally hired at the ES chain's meeting ahead of the Electronics Industry's White Goods Days in November.

- It will be a huge job, but incredibly motivating to lead the chain forward, says Kjærlid-Auensen.

Regarding Pelle's workshop, she says a focus area going forward will be cooling and freezing products for shops, restaurants, and institutions. The large kitchen market constitutes the main income for Pelle's workshop. A turnover in 2025 of just over 20 million kroner is expected, distributed among 15 employees including an apprentice.

- It is absolutely crucial to have more legs to stand on. We experienced this during the pandemic when restaurants closed overnight, says Kjærlid-Auensen.
