BETTER SOUND AND ANC IN EAR

Samsung promises better sound, smarter noise cancellation, and more precise controls on its new earbuds. – Galaxy Air Buds4 Pro is our new signature product.

That’s what Kenan Ömer from Samsung Nordics says when we meet him at the mobile fair MWC in Barcelona in the first week of March. Here he showcases both the Samsung Galaxy Air Buds4 and Samsung Galaxy Air Buds4 Pro.

– We have two new options, but it is the Galaxy Air Buds4 Pro that is the flagship. They have a completely new design and an improved sound experience, says Ömer to the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen.

Galaxy Air Buds4 Pro have received about 20 percent more efficient speaker surface.

– They are not larger, but the working surface is bigger, and therefore you get richer sound. Both bass and high tones become clearer, says Ömer.

The noise cancellation is also improved.

– We build on an upgraded algorithm that analyses sound in real-time much more efficiently. If you are on a plane with background noise, and a child starts crying, the algorithm will recognise the sound faster and cancel it, says Ömer.

AKG expertise

Samsung still uses the sound expertise from AKG.

– AKG is one of our subsidiaries, so we always use their expertise in production. Their design philosophy is still present in the products, he says.

The design is also new.

– The new Blade design with premium metal finish looks stylish and feels more premium, says Ömer.

He shows the engraved surface for the touch controls, where the swiping is supposed to work better. The charging case has also been reshaped.

– The case resembles the one we have on the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and has a transparent top so you can quickly see that both earbuds are in place. It is more comfortable to use, and easier to insert the earbuds, says Ömer.

For Samsung users, the connection to the mobile is automatic.

– The only thing you need to do is open the lid. Then they connect directly to the phone, and you have the controls built into the Quick Panel, says Ömer.

Registers head movements

With other mobiles, the connection works as a standard Bluetooth connection.

– It works just fine, but it is a regular Bluetooth connection, says Ömer.

Galaxy Air Buds4 Pro has its own wake-up function in the microphone for AI assistants.

– The microphone listens for “Hey Google” or “Hey Bixby”. The advantage is that the phone can still be in the pocket or bag, since the earbuds activate the assistant, says Ömer.

Samsung has also added a new feature that registers head movements.

– If you receive a call when your hands are full, you can nod to answer or shake your head to reject. Many use wireless earbuds in all situations, and such needs arise, says Ömer.

He believes the function will be useful in everyday use.

– When we see that 68 percent use earbuds when they are out shopping, exercising or working, situations where hands are full will arise. Then you can use either the wake-up function or the head gestures, says Ömer.
