TP Vision meets the industry with a broad TV portfolio and is investing heavily in OLED, with the new 911 series as this year's top model.

Elon Expo provides the setting as the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen meets TP Vision. Nordic commercial director Daniel Ankarström has held the position for a little over a year, and describes the situation in the company with optimism.

– We are making strong headway, very much so. We are a close-knit team, with quick decisions and many opportunities, says Ankarström.

European product training manager Pär Josefsson points to one technology when asked what TP Vision’s strength is in the TV market.

– The strength is Ambilight. That is what drives everything, it is completely unique in the TV industry, and provides great added value for the consumer. A TV without Ambilight feels a little grey and boring, says Josefsson.

A TV for everyone

TP Vision sells TVs under the Philips brand, and Josefsson confirms that the licensing agreement with Philips is renegotiated every five years.

– There is no reason for Philips to withdraw, because we sell so many units and they receive licence revenue from us. It is an extremely strong brand, so everyone is happy, says Josefsson.

– How much remains of the original Philips, when it is TP Vision that licenses the brand?

– We have a great many people who have worked in the company for a long time, also from before TP Vision, with the Philips heart in the right place. I clearly sense continuity there, says Josefsson.

He says several key employees have worked with Philips since the 1980s, and that he himself has been involved since the 2000s.

OLED is the top priority

Ankarström highlights the breadth of the product range when describing what TP Vision can offer the industry.

– We have an incredibly broad range of TVs. We have OLED, RGB MiniLED, MiniLED, QLED and standard LED. So we have a TV for everyone, regardless of what type of customer you have, Ankarström tells the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen.

OLED is described as the top tier in the range, and Josefsson emphasises why the panel technology is important.

– This is where we are investing most heavily in the very best picture processors, and you can do a great deal with the panel technology since you have full control over each individual pixel. That is important, also for turnover, says Josefsson.

OLED+911 this summer

When Josefsson is asked to highlight a single product, the choice is clear. It is the OLED+911, which will be launched this summer. At Elon Expo, it is being shown in 55 inches.

– This has the latest OLED panel with up to 4,500 nits, you have 165 Hz for those who play games, and we have a sound system from Bowers & Wilkins which is the icing on the cake. We are also the first OLED brand to be introduced in Dolby Vision 2 Max, says Josefsson.

When asked whether burn-in is a problem, the answer is clear.

– This has been reduced to an absolute minimum. We have so many safety systems in the TV sets, plus the panels themselves have become so much better, that something truly extraordinary would have to happen for this to occur, says Josefsson.
