– We are pleased that MDG has succeeded in securing the removal of VAT on the sale of used goods in retail. Likewise, VAT on repairs should also be removed.

Modified

This is according to managing director Jan Røsholm of the Electronics Industry Foundation, after the Green Party secured support for exempting the sale of used goods from VAT.

– The Electronics Industry Foundation and our subsidiary OmBrukt have for several years had VAT exemption as a key issue, both for repairs and the sale of used products. If we are to speed up the green transition, it is important to extend the lifespan of products, and it therefore goes without saying that VAT exemption also on repairs and spare parts is a strong measure, says Røsholm.

Exchange and repair

The budget agreement between Labour, the Socialist Left Party, Red, the Green Party and the Centre Party in connection with the revised national budget for 2026 was presented on Sunday 7 June. The relevant point is worded as follows:

– The Storting asks the government to investigate a concrete and practically feasible model for how the sale of used goods can be exempted from VAT by 1 November 2027.

The Electronics Industry Foundation established its subsidiary OmBrukt AS at the beginning of 2021, which has created a system that checks and repairs used products before they are put back on the market with a two-year exchange guarantee. A two-year repair guarantee is also offered to private customers who repair white goods that are between five and eight years old.

– This is the circular economy in practice. A VAT exemption is absolutely crucial for increasing the sale of used goods, and we hope the same will apply to repairs and spare parts, says managing director Pål Haugen of OmBrukt AS.
