Samsung is launching a completely new platform for refrigerators, with automatic door opening and precise temperature control as the key new features.

Technical product manager Rikard Fornbäck at Samsung Nordic is presenting two new One Door series at the Elon Expo training fair in Örebro.

– This is a completely new platform, in the 70 and 80 series. The latter is the top model, with all the accessories, Fornbäck tells the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen when we meet him in the first week of May.

The top model in the 80 series has a sensor that reacts to touch, so the door opens automatically. The opening can also be controlled by voice, via Bixby.

– Series 80 has an integrated handle, so the door can also be opened manually without the motor, says Fornbäck.

Both series use metal cooling, Metal Cooling, but to a different extent in the various models. In the 80 series, Metal Cooling covers the entire back wall and the door.

Precise temperature

Through connection to SmartThings and artificial intelligence, the products achieve what Samsung calls precise cooling.

– We have a temperature variation of plus/minus 0.5 degrees, says Fornbäck.

The 70 series comes in two variants. The entry-level variant has Metal Cooling only in the door. The second variant has Metal Cooling both at the back of the cabinet and in the door.

– What do you mean by saying it is a completely new platform?

– We have had some One Door models that have been around for quite a long time. We are now launching completely new models, with new functions and a new design, including what you cannot see, and how the cabinets are constructed.

Fornbäck has been in the industry for more than 30 years, and with Samsung for nearly seven years. He says that new developments are appearing in white goods ever more frequently.

– Above all with the smart home and the connected aspect, with increased use of screens, also for entertainment. It should not just be a cabinet that keeps food cool or a washing machine that cleans, but it should be something more, says Fornbäck.
