Xplora completes the acquisition of emporia, thereby increasing its volume in the senior market. At the same time, the company is introducing new services.

According to a press release dated 29 May, the company's annual volume of digital devices in the senior market is increasing by around 30 per cent.

– The acquisition marks an important milestone for Xplora, and is another important step towards building the world's leading platform for safety and communication across generations, says chief executive Sten Kirkbak in the press release.

The transaction gives Xplora positions in markets such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France and the Nordics, and a strengthened market position in Europe.

Market-ready 5G products

According to the press release, Emporia adds a portfolio of market-ready 5G products and technology platforms, making it possible to bring the next generation of products to market more quickly.

The acquisition means that Xplora assumes responsibility for Emporia's debt obligations. This corresponds to an implicit company value of approximately NOK 105,000,000 after rounding.

The company also points out that planned development investments of approximately NOK 30,000,000 to NOK 40,000,000 will be avoided as a result of the transaction.

Emporia is expected to be consolidated into Xplora's accounts from the third quarter of 2026.

Subscriptions and services

Xplora describes a continued development from mobile hardware to subscription services.

– Families are increasingly demanding technology that is simple, safe and works seamlessly together, whether it concerns children or older people, Kirkbak says in the press release.

The company states that upcoming products and services for older people will include mobile devices, subscriptions and digital solutions. It also states that the solutions have been developed to address challenges linked to digital exclusion and digital fraud.

New security features

Xplora says that new services for security and support are being planned.

A screen-sharing function will make it possible for relatives to help users directly on the devices.

– The function makes it possible for relatives or carers to help older people directly on their devices, including with settings, messages, video calls and technical support, Kirkbak says in the press release.

The company also describes solutions for protection against fraud.

– Our upcoming fraud protection services are designed to detect and block suspicious calls, phishing links, fake text messages and attempts at identity fraud, says Kirkbak.

Shared platform

Xplora describes a strategy in which several devices and services are gathered into one platform.

– Through the Xplora app, families will be able to manage both children’s and older family members’ devices in one place, Kirkbak says in the press release.

Users will be able to communicate through calls, messages and photo sharing. Emporia is included as part of this structure, together with the company’s other brands. The strategy is to integrate the businesses into a shared platform and distribution.

– Together with Doro and emporia, we are positioned to meet these needs, says Kirkbak.
