Røde presents RødeCasterVideo Core at CES. The device provides video control to RødeCaster Pro II and aims to make podcast setups more complete.

Modified

- This will be the newest addition to our RødeCaster family, says Alex Page at Røde Microphones.

The new Core model builds on the features of RødeCasterVideo, which was released last year as a six-camera video mixer, and the smaller RødeCasterVideo-S for four cameras.

- Now you can filter video into your existing RødeCaster Pro, so that it is not just an audio mixer with faders and effects, but also controls video, says Page.

The unit allows for customising buttons and integrating video input along with audio functions.

- It has auto-switching, which changes the camera based on who is speaking, says Page.

Who is it for?

- Typical users are experienced podcasters who want to add video, or those who want a simple setup with a few cameras, perhaps an iPhone or existing DSLR, says Page to the trade magazine Elektronikkbransjen.

The Core model offers a lower entry price than the full version RødeCasterVideo, but according to Page, with professional features.

Sustainability and support

Page says the development started with the idea of extending the lifespan of existing technology.

- We want users to have maximum longevity from their equipment. Instead of buying a new unit for a thousand dollars, you can purchase a peripheral device that increases functionality, says Page.

Røde offers a five-year warranty on wireless microphones and has recently launched 24/7 global technical support.

– You can call at any time and get help from a Røde employee, says Page.

Launch and price

The Core unit shown in Las Vegas is currently the only one of its kind in the world.

– We hope to announce price and availability during the spring, and that it will be in stores by the summer, says Page.

The price is not clear, but Page suggests that it will be lower than the RødeCasterVideo-S, which costs 499 dollars.

– Everything we make is produced in Sydney. This was completed just before Christmas and sent overnight, says Page.
